Watford Induction

A few thoughts on the Watford course induction day.

Everyone was nervous, especially me. At one point I though I was going to be late despite arriving in Watford two hours early, the tension was sapping my energy so much my muscles just wouldn’t operate properly, I must have looked like a pensioner in a gale as I struggled towards the campus.

We had a quick viddy of the chocolate factory and a not –so-quick chat before we could break for lunch. My sandwiches had escaped and were running riot over the inside of my bag. After lunch we were set a brief and had an hour and a half to respond. All ideas bar one were binned which meant we learned a lot about what not to do.

I started to grasp the reasoning of a one hour brief and why you don’t go back to it on the way home but could only distil it into a distasteful sporting analogy along the lines of. If you don’t score against Blackburn, you go and practice then play the next match, you don’t go back and play Blackburn again.

I managed to get lost on my way back to the station again, not because I don’t know the way but because my brain was thinking of so many things I walk just walked past the turnings I was supposed to make.

All in all it was an excellent day, my course buddies seem friendly and interesting, good targets for investigating/obsessing over until I know them inside out. I really have a sense that we are about to embark on something magical and special in September and that the hard work has not even begun. The time is almost here, the new cult members have been indoctrinated and I am off to get “Watford” tattooed on my gums.

The sky from where you sleep

My friend Polly Scattergood is running a project through her myspace where you can contribute a picture of the sky from where you sleep to one of her photo albums and is building quite a collection. I think its a really nice idea to take ownership of your own "skyspace" and i hope she eventually arranges all the images into a huge sky montage. My submission is included below.
